Belgiums Magical Bluebell forest, also know as “The Hallerbos “is located in Halle, only 25 km’s away from the Brussels City Centre. Every year during springtime, thousands of blooming bluebells cover the forest with a blue carpet.
When to visit the blooming Bluebells at the Hallerbos?
The Hallerbos doesn’t have it’s magical purple carpet all year long. The flowers only bloom a few weeks a year and the best period to visit the blooming Bluebells only lasts for about 10 days. The exact date is hard to tell, since the blooming period is different every year. Last years it was around the second and third week of April, whilst other years the top days to visit the forest where in May.
It is advised to start keep an eye on the official Hallerbos website from the end of March to get information about the exact blooming dates and plan your visit accordingly.
What should I expect?
The Hallerbos is a forest and nature reserve, not a park. So don’t expect toilets, eating or drinking facilities. During the blooming days there can be a lot visitors, especially during the weekends, since most Belgians and tourist will come have a look at the magical fairy forest themselves.
Entrance to the park is free, however there are some basic rules you’re asked to stick to. The most important one is to keep on the paths, which is very important to preserve to blooming bluebells. Once you’ve stepped on one, it won’t be able to bloom the following year.
How to travel to the Hallerbos forest?
The best way to get to Halle from Brussels or any other city is to take the train. During the weekends of the blooming period there will be a free pendelbus available that will bring you from Halle Trainstation to the Hallerbos forest and back.
